Hi,  Professor Ostrowick,

Can I ask you something?
I went to a friend’s wedding a couple of days ago, and during the moment when they exchanged rings, it unexpectedly brought back memories of my first relationship and the marriage that ended about six years ago. It was a very painful time for me, and I didn’t expect it to affect me like this again.

I thought I had already moved on, but that moment seemed to reopen something I hadn’t fully processed. The past couple of days have been really difficult. I haven’t left the house, and it’s starting to affect my ability to function normally and stay focused on my work.

I was hoping you might have some advice on how to work through this kind of emotional setback, or how you personally deal with moments like this. I would really appreciate it.

Thank you,
Lillian

Dear Professor Ostrowick,

I hope you are doing well. I just wanted to briefly follow up on my previous message.

I understand that you have a busy academic schedule, and I truly appreciate your time. If there is ever an opportunity to have a brief conversation with you in the future, it would be an honor for me to hear your insights.

Sincerely,
Lillian Briger

Dear Professor Ostrowick,

My name is Lillian Briger. I was born in Brunei and currently travel between the US and Southeast Asia. I am an international education consultant and run a private practice serving royal families and ultra-high-net-worth households, providing long-term educational planning and institutional advisory services.

In my work I frequently help families navigate complex educational and legal systems across different countries. This has led me to think deeply about how institutions operate in practice. Questions of authority, legitimacy, and fairness are not just theoretical, they affect the many decisions families must make when interacting with universities, governments, and international organizations.

I recently explored your research in philosophy of mind, consciousness studies, and the psychology of self-efficacy. It made me consider how insights into human cognition and belief formation could inform educational programs that encourage critical thinking and reflective decision-making.

From your perspective, how can concepts from consciousness studies and the psychology of self-efficacy be applied in educational programs to help students critically assess information and develop independent reasoning skills?

I would greatly appreciate any insights you might share and would be very interested in a brief conversation if your schedule allows.

Sincerely
Lillian Briger
